On 30 Layout

On30 is basically (to the layman) "O" gauge running on H.O. size track, narrow gauge = 30 inch.

Probably made famous by Denver & Rio Grande running between Silverton & Durango, which transported mined lead, silver, gold, timber this gauge is becoming more popular because of the variety of Loco's & rolling stock available and the Aussie dollars value against other currency's. It also good for us older modellers whose eye sight is not as good as it was. It is now a tourist railway becoming very popular.

The club layout will be freelance and based around the Colorado area of the U.S.A. which has snow covered mountains all the way to deserts all adding up to great scenery. The only way a railroad could be built in this country was with narrow gauge. Narrow gauge allows tight radius around curves and less track width which is essential in narrow passes or steep valley sides. Costs are also cheaper running with this method of track.
